About the AM Daytimers Association
What is the AM Daytimers Association and why was it established?
The AM Daytimers Association (AMDA) is an organization of member AM radio stations with a mandate to inform and promote the specific needs and interests of these stations before the FCC. AMDA was established in response to a Petition for Rule Making filed with the FCC by the National Association of Broadcasters. The NAB petition proposes changes to the FCC's rules that would allow AM daytime station owners to own and operate FM translator stations, enabling these AM stations to broadcast after sunset and before sunrise for the first time. It might also enable those AM station operators who greatly reduce power at night to increase their nighttime coverage area with FM translators so daytime listeners who cannot receive the station's signal at night would be able to listen to the station at night on FM.
The AMDA organizers believe this is the best opportunity for AM daytimers to improve their competitive position in the marketplace in more than 20 years. To capitalize on this opportunity, they established AMDA with these objectives:
- To promote the mission: "Nighttime Broadcasting For Local AM Stations—The Right Thing At The Right Time."
- To serve as a clearinghouse for information on the proceeding, analyzed with an emphasis on AM broadcasters.
- To provide AM broadcasters across the country with an opportunity to unite and be heard at the FCC in a comprehensive and cost-effective manner.
